Clinics

Antenatal Clinics

When you find out that you are pregnant please complete the following online referral form or call the Midwifery team directly on 01865 220457.

An initial appointment with your GP is no longer necessary unless you are on regular medication or have existing medical conditions which may impact your pregnancy.

Blood Pressure

If you have raised, or borderline, blood pressure we encourage to check your blood pressure readings at home if possible. Research suggests that an average of four to seven days of home readings give a more accurate picture of your blood pressure than office readings.

See our Blood Pressure page for more details

Blood Tests

Daily appointments for blood tests are available with our Health Care Assistants and Nurses.

See our appointments page for details

Cancer Support

If there is anything you wish to discuss in more detail, please don’t hesitate to contact the surgery to book an appointment.

At Beaumont Elms Practice we work with a large team that are here to support you. In addition to our doctors and practice nurses, the following people may be of particular help:

  • Practice pharmacists – able to advise on any queries relating to medication.
  • District nurses – who can visit at home if you need nursing care but are not well enough to come in to the surgery – for example for dressing changes.
  • Social prescribers – who can help with arranging practical and emotional support and signposting to different support services. They can provide advice on benefits.
  • Health Coach – works in partnership with patients to guide and support them towards health changes they want to make

Everyone living with cancer is eligible for free prescriptions – please contact the surgery to ask for the necessary form.

See our local and national support services for more support and advice

Cervical Screening (Smear Tests)

Cervical screening, which used to be called smear test, is a test to check the health of the cervix and help prevent cervical cancer.

All eligible women (age range 25 to 65 years) are routinely invited to attend for cervical screening (smear tests).

Childhood Immunisations

One of the most important things that a parent can do for their child is to make sure that they have all their routine childhood vaccinations. It’s the most effective way of keeping them protected against infectious diseases. Children should have their injections at the right age to protect them as early as possible and minimise the risk of infection.

Find out which injections your child needs, when they need them, and what the benefits of each injection are: NHS vaccinations and when to have them

Please book an appointment to arrange your child’s immunisations.

Contraception

Our nurses can provide family planning and contraception advice as appropriate within their normal appointments.

Emergency contraception is available from your local pharmacy or sexual health clinic.

The practice can provide contraceptive injections, implants or coils depending on your preference.

Diabetic Clinic

We offer regular reviews for all patients with diabetes. Usually an appointment with the health care assistant (various checks and taking blood tests) will be followed one week later by an appointment with one of our diabetes nurses to discuss the blood results and make any necessary changes to treatment

All diabetic patients are invited annually to the Oxfordshire Diabetic Eye Screening Service for eye checks.

When necessary patients are also seen at OCDEM (Oxford Centre for Diabetes and Endocrine Medicine) at the Churchill Hospital.

Ear Wax Removal

We offer irrigation only on hospital request or for those unable to self-syringe. Remaining wax may require private ear suction.

Earwax is usually not a concern unless it becomes hard and affects your hearing. Softening earwax can often restore normal hearing without the need for irrigation (syringing) or suction.

Ear irrigation carries risks, including infection and, rarely, eardrum perforation, so it's best to avoid it if possible.

Recommended Self-Treatment:

  • Use olive oil or sodium bicarbonate drops (2 to 3 drops, twice a day for up to 2 weeks).
    • These can be purchased over the counter, or culinary olive oil can be used with a dropper.
  • When applying the drops, tilt your head and pull your ear upward. Lying on your side for 10 minutes afterwards helps the drops soak into the wax.

Stop using the drops if your hearing improves before the 2 week period. Some wax may naturally clear during this process.

Respiratory Care

Our practice nurses are specially trained in asthma and COPD care. If you have asthma or COPD, it's important to have a check-up every year to review how you're feeling and how your treatment is going.

If you have asthma, we'll send you a questionnaire to fill out about your symptoms. If it shows that your asthma isn't well controlled, we'll set up an appointment for you with one of our practice nurses.

We'll contact COPD patients when it's time for your annual review. We'll ask you to call us to schedule an appointment with one of our nurses.
